  • A laptop for virtual classwork
  • A valid Alabama learner's permit
  • Completed log of 15 hours of supervised driving — download the log sheet

Use the link above to download the supervised-driving log sheet. As Coach Rod puts it: driver's ed isn't where a student learns to drive for the first time — students should already know their vehicle's operation and the rules of the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know before you sign up.

Who's eligible to take the Driver's Education Course?

Students enrolled in public school, private school, or homeschooled, who hold a valid Alabama learner's permit. Space is limited to 15 students per session, so it's best to sign up early.

Is the class online or in person?

Both. Classwork (traffic laws, defensive driving, rules of the road) is completed virtually, and behind-the-wheel instruction happens in person at the Gulf Shores HS Athletic Building.

What does my student need to bring?

A laptop for the virtual coursework, a valid Alabama learner's permit, and a completed log of 15 hours of supervised driving. Ask Coach Rod if you need a log sheet.

Do we still need to go to the DMV for the road test?

No — Coach Rod is a certified third-party road test administrator. Students test with him, and the score is submitted directly to ALEA, so you can skip the DMV line entirely.

What happens once the 15 spots are full?

This session is capped at 15 students total. Once it fills, sign-ups close for this class — call or text 251-490-0965 to check current availability or ask about the next session.
